Make your own thieves hand sanitizer using purifying essential oils from the traditional thieves recipe.
8 drops Clove
7 drops Lemon
5 drops Cinnamon Leaf
4 drops Eucalyptus
3 drops Rosemary
6 tbsp Grain Alcohol (180 proof or higher)
2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
10 drops Vitamin E Oil
Combine all of the ingredients in a glass bowl and mix well. Pour into small dark coloured squeeze bottles. Shake well before each use.
If you're wondering whether you can use a different type of alcohol - gin or vodka are both typically 40% alcohol content, which isn't a high enough alcohol content to meet WHO guidelines for hand sanitizers. Rubbing alcohol can have a very high alcohol content and is acceptable if it's 75% alcohol content or higher but it does tend to be very drying to the hands if you use it long term. I prefer high proof grain alcohol like Everclear as it's less drying than rubbing alcohol.
According to legend, the essential oil blend used in this recipe is based on a combination of aromatic herbs used by four 15th century French thieves to protect themselves from the plague while they were robbing the dead and dying.
