5 drops Lemon
5 drops Sweet Orange
1 drops 70% Rubbing Alcohol
1 drops Vinegar
Add the lemon and orange oils to a 2oz dark coloured glass bottle. Add the rubbing alcohol and shake well. (This will dissolve the essential oils).
Then add the vinegar and shake again. I like to use apple cider vinegar as it's anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and helps to keep the nails healthy, but you can also use white vinegar.
Add some of the mixture to a cotton ball and rub onto the nails until the polish is removed. Wash your hands before applying fresh polish.
An essential oil nail polish remover does take a bit longer to use than an acetone based remover, but it's worth it to avoid the nasty chemicals. And you get two added benefits - according to The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, orange and lemon oils both stimulate strong, health nail growth and can both be used to help with anxiety and depression. So it's a nail polish remover, nail strengthener and mood enhancer all in one!
All citrus oils are natural cleansers and can be used for removing nail polish, as can lemongrass, so you can mix it up and try your own favorite combination. Lemongrass and lime is another favorite of mine.
