Instructions for Using the Essential Oil Blending Calculator
e.g. if you want to check the dilution and safety information for a 10 ml rollerball blend that has 3 drops of Peppermint oil, 3 drops of Lemon oil and 2 drops of Cardamom oil, you would:- Select 'ml' as the answer to the question 'Is your bottle measured in ounces or ml'
- Enter 10 as the size of the bottle or container
- Select 'Peppermint' as the name of the first essential oil and '3' as the number of drops
- Select 'Lemon' as the name of the 2nd essential oil and '3' as the number of drops.
- Select 'Cardamom' as the name of the 3rd essential oil and '2' as the number of drops.
- Click Calculate
- Note you DON'T need to enter anything for the carrier oil/cream/balm. The calculator works out how much room is left in your bottle/container after you've added the essential oils and uses that as the amount of carrier oil/cream/balm when it's calculating the dilutions.
- Dilutions are calculated based on 20 drops of essential oil per ml. The actual number of drops per ml varies from one oil to another so dilutions are only approximate.
- The maximum recommended dilution for each essential oil is taken from the book Essential Oil Safety by Tisserand and Young. Please note that these are general recommendations and that particularly sensitive people, children, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and the elderly may need to use lower dilutions. You may also need to use lower dilutions if you combine oils that have similar chemical properties.
